Hey Jude – Beatles

38 years old!!!

The song, originally titled “Hey Jules”, was written by McCartney
to comfort John Lennon’s son Julian
when John Lennon and his first wife, Cynthia Powell, were divorced.

Julian Lennon only discovered the song had been written for him
almost twenty years later

25 years old!!!

“In the Air Tonight”

is the subject of variations of an urban legend
arising from the lyrics’ reference to drowning.

The most common version claims that Phil Collins saw a man drowning
but was too far away to do anything,
but a man nearby who could have saved him did nothing.

phil himself had this to say

“I don’t know what this song is about.
When I was writing this I was going through a divorce.
And the only thing I can say about it
is that it’s obviously in anger.
It’s the angry side, or the bitter side of a separation.”

It was the twenty-first video played upon MTV’s launch on August 1, 1981.

“Mr. Blue Sky” trivia

* It was featured as a song sung by the main characters
in the movie adaptation of The Magic Roundabout

* It was used in the trailers for the films
Adaptation and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

* It was the theme song of the television series LAX

* It is part of the soundtrack for the Atari video game Driver:Parallel Lines,
featuring prominently in the 1970s section of the game

* In 2003 and 2004, it appeared in a commercial
for the Volkswagen Beetle convertible

* In 2005, it was used in a successful advertising campaign on British television
for a new clothes range from the retailer Marks & Spencer

* It featured as backing music for the Doctor Who episode ‘Love & Monsters’,
and a few other ELO tracks were performed by members of the cast
during the course of the episode.


But more importantly…………….It was the first single i bought.

According to some band members, Mercury had worked out
the entire song in his head and directed the band through the song.

When it was finished it was the most expensive single ever made
and remains one of the most elaborate recordings in music history.

Sting wrote this when he was visiting actor Peter O’Toole at his house in Ireland.
He gave it to Grace Jones, who recorded it in 1981.
The Police recorded their version the next year.

Mr Roboto – Styx

“Mr. Roboto” is a song written by Dennis DeYoung
and performed by the band Styx on their 1983 concept album Kilroy Was Here.
The chorus featured the line, “Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto”,
which has become an unlikely catch phrase.
Domo arigato is one of several Japanese phrases that translate to English as
“thank you”.
