Disney has struck a deal with UK cinema chain Cineworld
to show Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland as planned, from March 5.
Cineworld, Odeon and Vue had threatened to boycott the movie last week after Disney announced
that it would cut the movie’s theatrical run to bring it out on DVD and Blu-ray faster.
Disney originally wanted to release the film on DVD 12 weeks after the theatrical opening,
rather than the industry standard of 17 weeks. After negotiations with exhibitors in recent days,
the studio has agreed to stretch the window to 13 weeks, which was enough to persuade Cineworld.
Alice in Wonderland comes out in the UK on 5 March.
Cineworld, which has a 24% share of UK box office, will play the film on over 150 screens.
Odeon and Vue are yet to reach an agreement on releasing Alice,
while the movie is also facing a boycott from Dutch and Italian exhibitors.
